The secret of the Ninefold Deity !

The Ninefold Deity is the Mother Divine in her nine aspects.

She is the Sacred Feminine of Gnosticism, the Maya of Vedanta, the Prakriti of Sankhya and the Shakti of Tantra. She is the beginingless Ignorance or Nescience ( Avidya ), which binds man to the sublunar world. She is the manifest power of the Unmanifest !

The power of the Unmanifest Lord
Triune, Tri-featured and Eternal
The generatrix of the Universe is She
Universal Mind, which sprung from the Lord !

This Nava Durga Mantra protects the seeker, whether he be amidst enemies or in the battlefield, or enveloped by worries and difficulties. He who takes refuge in the Mother Divine will be protected by the Creatrix of the Universe.

Agnina dahya manasthu sathru madhye gatho rane
Vishame Durgameschaiva bhayartha saranam gatha


She is begininngless, because of her structural inherence in the phenomenal worlds. All the universes and multiverses are in transitional flux, in exact antithesis to the Immutability of the Divine !

She is worth worshipping, as She can destroy all the triune afflictions - physical, mental and emotional suffering, the thapa trayas.

We shalt exalt thee with devotion
O Destroyer of suffering triune
Physical, mental, emotional
Give us health physical
Give us Victory
Give us fame immortal
And destroy our enemies !

The Nine Forms of the Mother Divine !

All Indian festivals are based on the position of the Heavens.

When the Moon is within 12 degrees of the Sun it is called the First Lunation, Prathama. The second is ( 12-24 degrees ) is called Dwitheeya. Then Thritheeya ( Third ), Chathurthi ( fourth ), Panchami ( Fifth ), Shashti ( Sixth), Sapthami (Seventh ), Ashtami ( Eighth ),Navami ( NInth ) and so on.

Navaratri is the festival of Nine days, when the Nine forms of the Mother Divine are worshipped. The Universal Mother is worshipped in her Nine Aspects, which are as follows.

1) Shailaputri - Mythologically, She is the daughter of the Himalyas. She is worshipped during Prathama, the first lunation, when the Moon is within 12 degrees of the Sun.

2) Brahmacharini - She is the celibate and celibacy is observed by all spiritual aspirants for Self Actualisation. She is worshipped during Dwitheeya, the second lunation.

3) Chandra Ghanti - She holds a half-circular Moon on her forehead and is worshipped during Thritheeya, the third lunation. . The Moon is the exoteric symbol of the Divine Mother. The Sun is the exoteric symbol of the Self. In Vedanta, the Moon represents the Universal Mind or Cosmic Mind.

4) Khooshmanda - She creates the Universe, the Brahmanda, by mere laughing. She is the power behind the solar systems. She holds the Rosary, indicating that Mantra Yoga is powerful and is conducive to Enlightenment. She is worshipped during Chathurthi, the fourth lunation

5) Skanda Matha - She is the mother of Skanda, the Military General of the celestials. She observed penance to get the hand of Lord Shiva and gave birth to Skanda, the Military Chief. She is worshipped during Panchami, the fifth lunation.

6) Katyayani- She was born as the daughter of Katyavan. Katyavan was a seer who perfomed penance to get the Universal Mother as his daughter. She is worshipped during Shashti, the sixth lunation.

7) Kalaratri - Kala means Dark and Ratri means Night. This is the symbolism of the Dark Night of the Soul and the Dark Night of the Spirit. She is worshipped during Sapthami, the seventh lunation.

8) Maha Gauri - Gauri means White. She is as pure and white, sinless. She is worshipped during Ashtami, the eighth lunation.

9) Siddhi dhathri - Siddhi means psychic or occult powers. She is the bestower of psychic powers. There are eight Siddhis. They are Anima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Iishitva & Vashitva, Garima and Mahima. She is worshipped during Navami, which is the ninth lunation.

These nine deities are Her nine aspects. Now man is a composite creature and only by overcoming our negative aspect, can we aspire for Self Realisation. Overcoming our negative aspect is not easy. Lust, greed, anger, jealousy, sloth, covetousness, gluttony, the Seven Deadly Sins, have their home in us.

Man houses dangerous forces in his house
The Titan, the Fury and Djinn
Lay in the Subconscient’s cavern pit
And the beast moved in his antre den !

The Mother Divine destroys them one by one, to give us immortal Bliss. For this purpose, She is propitiated on Nine Days, during the Nine Lunations, during the Nine Thidhis, in Her Nine Aspects !.

The Fivefold Verse about The Divine Player

This is Lalitha Pancha Ratna Stotram, a hymn in praise of the Mother Divine, the Becoming of Philosophy, the Maya of Vedanta , Prakriti of Sankhya & the Sacred Feminine of Gnosticism.

Lalita means She who plays.  The whole Universe is Her play and display and She is the Creatrix, Mediatrix and Executrix !

She has lips of reddish hue
Her nose resembles pearls
Long eyes extending to ears
Gems priceless adorn Her ears
With a shining forehead glorious

She holds a bow of flowers

In Bhakti Yoga, Self Actualisation

Yat karma yogabhitam
Thaddoorethya phalam, yadaupanishada
Jnanam cha labhyam puna



Jnana Yoga is indeed great
But its principles are incomprehensible !
Upanishadic thoughts are known
For their philosophic subtlety
Mind cannot comprehend
A state beyond Mind
An Overmind or a Supermind !
Hence the greatest Yoga, therefore, is
Bhakti Yoga supreme !

Jarabhavam is the aspect of some ladies who reveal their secrets to their lovers and not to their husbands ! The wise say such a jarabhavam exists in the Lord !

Universal Love is All Conquering !

It can conquer all. It is the representative of Heaven on earth.

It rules the court, the camp and the grove
All men below and saints above
It liveth not in fierce desire
And it fierce desire it doth not die !

It is Nature's second Sun and is Omnipotent !


What is this greatest positive Quality? It is Universal Love !

Let us cultivate this noble passion. Enstein said " We have to free ourselves from this ego-prison" and this quality alone can free us from this earthly ego-prison.

Let us love humanity and Nature in her beauty in their entirety

The Razor's Edge

Somerset Maugham came to India to learn about her philosophy and the quintessence of the Upanishads he wrote as the "Razor's Edge".

The Law of the Way is as dangerous as the Razor's Edge. ( Kshurasya dhara nishitha durathyaya durgam pathasthat kavayo vadanti ).

Says the Upanishadic verse

Arise, awake
And stop not till the Goal is reached !
Like the Edge of the Razor
So is the path difficult to tread !

Those who have travelled that Path and reached the Goal triumphant, to them belongs eternal fame !

They alone are the conquerors
The conquerors of the Spirit !
The Self Actualised Poets
Whose fame body knoweth no disease !

The Noblest Conquest is the Conquest of Mind !

The most dangerous enemy which is Mind
Conquer it and he who does so wins !
Subjugated becomes Sorrow worldly
Fortunate indeed is the winner, the Mystic !

Mano Jaya eva Maha Jaya - the noblest conquest is the conquest of Mind !

Manasvasthathaiva Ananda - The greatest bliss is mental peace !

Thus say the wise !

The noblest conquest is the conquest of oneself

Buddha's realisation was that Mara or Satan was an aspect of himself, his own negative aspect.

We all have a dark side, symbolised in Eastern Literature as the dark form of Diti. Only after we conquer our negative aspect, can we hope for Self Acutalisation.


I walk on the Razor's edge alone,
The path is narrow, the way Unknown !

So let us embrace Universal Love, Universal Brotherhood and Friendship. Let us remove our negative aspect and embrace all of humanity and Nature in her beauty, as Einstein said !

Yet till evil is slain in its own house
And Light invades the world's inconscient base
And perished has the Adversary Force
He must still labour on, his work half done !

The noblest conquest is the conquest by Love !

Conquest by the sword is fraught with dangerous consequences.

He who overcomes by force
Hath overcome but half his foe !

The conquered resents the conquest. That grudge will continue for centuries.

The noblest conquest is the conquest by Love. When Love triumphs, both, the conqueror and the conquered, win !

Quantum Mysticism or Bridal Mysticism ?

This argument has been going on for centuries ! Which path is greater ?

Quantum Mysticism ( Jnana Yoga ) or Bridal Mysticism ( Bhakti Yoga )?

Quantum Mysticism has been defined as that Art of Mysticism where eternal truths are verified by Quantum Physics. The Mystic view that Reality has dual properties - as Relative Being & as Absolute Being - stands validated by Quantum Physics, which maintains that Matter has dual properties, the wave and the particle aspects !

Q M tells us to remove the veils of Ignorance, which is Mind and arrive at Reality which is Self. But imagine not that the path is easy !

The greatest enemy which is Mind
When subdued, shows us Reality !
Its conquest is the noblest conquest !

While this path is difficult and tedious, the same Seer Poets advocated another path, the Path of Bridal Mysticism, where Self is the Lover, Self is the Bride !

The world is multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-national, multi-religious and only Universal Love can redeem this world !

Love all beings
That is enough !

By loving all and serving all, we can unite with Him, who is Universal Love !

The same Seer Poets said that Bridal Mysticism is the noblest !

Of Altruism

The mythological treatises eighteen
Or the quintessence of million books
Highlight this doctrine divine !
Hurting is Sin & helping is divine


Trees exist for Altruism
Rivers also for the same
Cows exist for Altruism
This body is for Altruism


Loving all & serving All
Is the highest duty divine
Hating none & helping ever
Is the royal path to Heaven !

No study of scriptures only
No talk about any doctrine
Will save us; only duty divine
And sacrifice can get us Heaven !

Of the greatness of Wisdom !

Never stolen is Wisdom

Wisdom cannot be taxed either

Never sharable is Wisdom

Nor is She burdensome

She increases as one expends

The greatest Wealth is Wisdom!

( Na Chaura Haryam, na raja Haryam

Na Bhratru bhajyam, na cha bharakaree

Vyaye krithe vardhatha eve Nithyam
Vidyadhanam sarva dhanal pradhanam )

Never comparable is

Wealth to Wisdom

A king is respected in his own land

Whereas a scholar is respected everywhere !

(Vidvathwam cha nripathvam cha naiva thulyam kadachana

Swadeshe poojyathe rajah vidwan sarvatra poojyate )

- A Dante or a Goethe, an Aurobindo or a Tagore are extolled everywhere !

Humity is given by Wisdom

And by humility one succeeds

From success comes Prosperity

And from Prosperity Dharma & Bliss !

(Vidya dadathi vinayam vinayath yadi patratvam

Patrathvath dhanam apnothi dhanath dharma para sukham )

Beauty is great

And so is Character

Aristrocray is also ennobling

They are indeed riches !

But shineth they not without Wisdom

Hence the greatest ornament is Wisdom !

Shobhathe na vina vidyam Vidya Sarvasya Bhooshanam )

Hegel's Three Phase Dialectic

Thesis, Anti-Thesis and Synthesis - this is the the three phase dialectic.

Thesis - The Absolute is Being

Anti- Thesis - The Absolute is Becoming

Synthesis The Absolute is Nothing

And what is the Absolute? It is one immutably homogenous Infinite !

The Absolute is 'Pure thought thinking about pure thought ' said Hegel.

The Hegelian Absolute has its critics. Somebody said "The Absolute is Absolute nonsense ".

Gnosticism or Western Mysticism

You are given the knowledge of the secrets of Kingdom of Heaven. To others they are given in parables, so that they can look but not see, listen but not understand "

Gnosis in Greek means knowledge. Gnostics believe that Salvation can only be had by intuitive Gnosis.

For Love, the Latin word is AMOR. If you inverse it , you get ROMA.

Gnostics believe that Materialism is intrinsically evil and is presided by Rex Mundi, the lord of the world, Power. They believe that Spirituality is positive and is presided by the Lord God.

AMOR represents Spirituality or Christ
ROMA represents Materiality or Anti Christ

Ptolemy, Origen, Dante, Luther, Goethe, Newton, Victor Hugo, Burns etc were all Gnostics.

Now there is a resurgence of Gnosticism. Gnostics believe that Christ Consciousness can be experienced by all.

Transcendental Alchemy

There are four types of Alchemy

1) Physical Alchemy

2) Psychological Alchemy

3) Biological Alchemy

4) Trascendental Alchemy

Alchemy is related to Astrology, as the Seven Revolving Heavens represents the metals seven

Gold - Sun

Silver - Moon

Jupiter - Tin

Venus - Copper

Saturn - Lead

Mars - Iron

Mercury - Mercury

Gold is the metal of the Sun. The Sun represents the Absolute Self, the Divine Solar Consciousness in World Mysticism.

Hence the purpose of Transcendental Alchemy is to transmute our earthly nature ( base metals ) into gold ( divine nature ). Meditation Triune is prescribed for this transmutation

Alchemy is effected by the Fourfold Yoga, via Wisdom, which involves the Discriminative Intellect, which discriminates between the Eternal and the Temporal. The Eternal is the Self, the Witness Consciousness in us. It is like a Mirror, which mirrors everything. It is filled with perceptions of the outer world. Hence it does not experience its own nature. Negating the Ureal and affirming the Real is genuine Wisdom.

Union via Action is renouncing all actions for the Ego and doing all actions in rhythm with Natural Law, for the Absolute Self.

Union via Psychic Control is controlling the Mind and transmuting it into a diviner mind.

Union via Love is the most important. Yogis says that they who do not love grow old quickly. You have heard of the adage " Judge not or ye be judged ". We should be Heart centred and should be non-judgemental !

The Solar & the Lunar Path !

In Transcendental Philosophy, two paths have been described.

The Solar Path is the Path of the Yogis. Those who aspire to Self Actualisation and attain to it follow this path celestial !

The Solar Path!

The Northern progress of the Sun ( Uttarayana, from Capricorn to Cancer), the Bright Fortnight and birth or death during day is considered as positive. This is the Solar Path or Deva Yana

The Lunar Path

In this Path, the yogi is subject to recurrence.

Dhoomo ratri thada krishna
Shan masa dakshinayanam

The Southern progress of the Sun ( Dakshinayana, from Cancer to Capricorn), the Dark Fortnight and birth or death during night is considered as the Lunar Path, the Pithru Yana

The Solar and the Lunar Path figure in the Song Celestial, the Geetha. In Vedic Astrology, the Bright Fortnight, 15 days after the New Moon, is considered as positive. The Dark Fortnight, 15 days after the Full Moon, is considered as negative. The Northern Progress of the Sun is considered as positive and Southern Progress is considered as negative. Day is considered as positive and Night as negative.

These two poetic verses mean that birth or death during the positive phases are considered positive. Seers and poets follow the Solar Path ( Sol or Sun represents the Inner Sun, the Absolute Self ) and mundane or worldly people follow the Lunar Path ( Lunar signifies Mind). The mundane are subject to recurrence, that is the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The Seers who follow the Solar Path ascend and merge in the Absolute Self !

Organic Farming

Organic farming can be called as Eco Farming as it is a way of agriculture that preserves the ecosystem. It echews the use of harmful chemicals & fertilizers. Cultured are the Symbiotic life forms & weed & pest control ensured by this method & optimal soil biological activity maintains fertility.

Agriculture in Kerala is caught in between the devil and the deep blue sea. Kerala is going back to her traditional Organic Farming after her hundreds of farmers had learnt the bitter lessons of " Chemical Farming " and mono cropping hitherto practised as " Scientific Agriculture ". The Dept of Agriculture is now promoting the production of Organic Food by launching " Jaiva Kerala " ( The Organic Sustainability of Kerala ). The Confederation of Indian Industry & a few Tourism Groups are branding " Gods's Own Country", as the Tourism Industry calls Kerala, a " Safe Food Destination".

It is paradoxical that the United States , a world leader in transgenic technology, is the largest importer of organic foods, followed by the European Union. The " Organic Craze " is spreading worldwide. The global market for organic herbal plants ( $14 b ) is growing at 20% and will be a $ 5 trillion by 2050 according to the World Health Organisation ( http://www.who.org/ ). The global trade in food supplements and processed herbal medicines is $ 60 billion. Despite her immense potential, India has not benefited much from the export of herbal medicines or organic food. A meagre Rs 90 crores is India's export of organic food while her export of herbal medicine fetches Rs 2300 crores.

Use of bio-fertilisers instead of chemicals is the way of Organic Farming. In Marappanmoola village in Pulpally panchayat of Wayanad district , 454 small and medium farmers in the village owning on an average less than 2 hectares of land have organized themselves & they now cultivate a mixed variety of crops including pepper, coffee, cardamom, coconut, areacanut, tubers, vegetables, cashew nut, nutmeg, rice etc. From the poultry & piggery units, they now collect the wastes and turn them into Biogas for the kitchen and manure for the field. Use the sap of chrysanthemum and marigold for chemical insecticides have become the order of the day.

A Cooperative Society, Highland Farmers’ Cooperative Society, has been formed ( Hicos ) to take on the challenges of conversion from chemical to organic farming by the farmers of Marappanmoola. 500 hectares have been declard to be ‘Organic Farming Zone’. Even now the produce is sold at a hefty 25% premium prices in the domestic market through weekly markets and export enquriries are on the rise. This organic Farm Movement is market driven and the premium price obtainable in the external markets in the future is a major source of inspiration. A 50 grams pack of organic white pepper fetches $ 4 in the U S Market as against $ 1.5 in the domestic market.



Success in Marappanmoola

One of the pioneers of the Organic Farm Movement, Jose K, says that people derisively laughed at the Movement initially. The Movement is now spreading in Wayanad, the home of the famous Kerala spices, especially ginger and black pepper. The other major crops of the District are Tea & Coffee and over 80% of agriculture is dependent on the foreign markets.

Networking is the key to Success of the Movement, as 74% of the cultivated land in Kerala is owned by small farmers. The Self Help Groups now use vermicompost, organic manure and pest control solutions which are made by them. Earlier a shortage of these organic substitutes made them heavily dependent on chemical farming. Even the women engaged in the production and marketing of vegetables keep up the morale and insist on Safe Food in the kitchen.

Another drawback with Chemical Farming was that the soil was destroyed by heavy chemical inputs, when the prices of pepper perked up ( It had gone upto 260 per kilo ). Excessive application of chemicals during that boom reduced soil fertility and wiped out the insects beneficial from the farms so that the average yield of pepper nosedived to 80 kgs per hectare from 500 kg per hectare. Many a farmer committed suicide as a result. Dangerous indeed, in the long run, is chemical farming !

Jaivakeralam - The Organic Sustainability of Kerala

The State Agriculture Department has now conducted 300 training programms to setup Collection Centers for Organic Produce. Not only the farmers and consumers have to be educated but also the scientific "elite", the bureaucrats and the technologists, as " the indifferent attitude of the Scientific Community " has been recognised as a major impediment in the State Policy Document.

A Research Station at Aralam in Cannanore, 3 zonal sub-centers and regional labs with facilities for soil and produce residue analysis has been planned by the Government under the Jaivakerlam Programme. Development of the domestic market for Organic Foods through a chain of supermarkets and a gradual withdrawing of State support on chemical inputs etc has been planned. The Government's role is that of the faciliator, forming farmers' producing companies to manage the affairs by themselves. Three Districts, Wynad, Idukki and Palghat will be declared as Organic Farming Zones. Crops which will be highlighted will be the scented rice varieties of Wynad, Malabar spices and several types of tubers. There are doubting Thomases who argue against the whole Movement. S Usha of Thana, a green ( environment group who had been in the forefront of combating against aerial spraying of Endosulphan in the cashew plantations of Kerala, doubt whether the thrust on export & international certification will reduce the whole exercise to contract farming for global agri businesses.

If the sale of chemical inputs through measures such as a prescription system is restricted legally, it will do a world of good for Organic Farming. Plants should be treated as human beings.

Organic versus Transgenic

It is Organic Farming vs Transgenic Technology which is the crucial issue in Kerala Agriculture. The Task Force on Application of Biotechnology has suggested conserving " Organic Farming Zones " and at the same time promotes Transgenic Tech ! This has attracted criticism from experts who argue that the two forms of Agriculture cannot coexist together.

Even though organic agriculture accounts for a negligible portion of the country's total farm produce, India's organic farm produce has already found markets abroad. The Indian Govt has declared only 5347 farms covering 37050 hectares as Organic, despite much of the country practising the traditional system of Organic Farming.

Research shows the Organic Farming ensures better yield and fetches more income. A paper by David Tilman in Nature 396 showed that not only were the yields of organic maize as high as those of maize grown with fertilizers & pesticides, but the soil quality in the organic fields improved dramatically. Field trials in Hertfordshire reported consistently higher yeilds of wheat with bio manure. Farmers in India, Kenya, Brazil & Gautemala have tripled yields by switing to Organic Farming, accordin to Prof Jules Pretty of Essex University.

The three final stages of Becoming !

Man is given a choice by the All Wise Energy. Man can choose any path and the three major paths are,

Upward Movement
Arrested status
Downward lapse

The upward movement is the master movement of Nature. It is that which pulls us from Death to Immortality and realises in this body of earth the luminous Kingdom of Heaven.

The arrested status is a state where there is not much spiritual progress. Man is satisfied with material achievements, which do not give everlasting happiness. If perfect, it is only a transient perfection.

The downward lapse is coming down to the level of animals.

These three states are known in Transcendental Philosophy as Uttama, Madhyama and Adhama. As we choose, the Lord shall fulfill Himself in us.

These are the secret of the Vedas, the secret words, Ninya Vachamsi, sage wisdoms which utter their inner meaning to the Seer. The Secret words spoken to the purified in Soul and awakened in Knowledge.

Rather arise, transcend thyself, become thyself, the whole nature of man is to be more than himself. We find that every state of existence has a force which drives to transcend itself.
