A haven for Bridal Mystics, Guruvayur is known for its legends and its ability to generate blissful experiences. This is where the great poet Melpathur wrote a Treatise on the Lord ( the Narayaneeyam ). Guruvayur was also adorned by the Poet Laureate, Poontanam, who composed the Jnanapana, a great poem in Malayalam.
The great poet defined the Cosmic Man or the Lord thus
That which is Timeless and Spaceless
That which is eternally Free
That which is the Aim of all sciences divine,
To that Principle Divine, I bow !

The Condensed Absolut Being, Absolute Knowledge, Absolute Bliss is the Lord, who sports in the garden of the Upanishads !His Destructive Form as Time Eternal, as the Zodiac, was defined by the poet thus

In ignorance I have defined Thy Glory
Forgive this transgression of mine !
I defined the Indefinable
I spoke about the Ineffable -
Devotion impelled, I described,
The Indescribable Thee !
The Limitless & Indefinable,
Forgive my mistakes, O Great One !
Earlier, the master epic Poet, Vyasa,
Had commited mistakes same,
As the Absolute Being transcends,
Our spatio-temporal language !
Thy True Form is as Time !
Chakram The Kala Roopam !
Wheels of thirty degrees,
And Circumference,
Three hundred and sixty
Lies the Zodiac mighty,
The Tropical Zodiac !
The oblique line that beareth,
Planets and constellations !
Known as Kala Chakra, Jyotis Chakra !
And tenanted by Twenty Seven,
Constellations is this Circle of Light,
Also called Bha Chakra !
Like moving fishes,
planets swim,
In this Massive Circle,
Adorned by 108 Lunar Mansions,
Representing Thee as Time !

Its immense speed is great indeed,
With speed supernal, cruel,
To disseminate Karma to all
How amazing, how remarkable !

Legend has it that Jupiter, Guru and Saturn, Vayu chose this place to incarnate. The Seers predicted that this place will become a Heaven on Earth, attracting pilgrims the world over. The great philosopher, Sankara, worshipped the Lord at this temple. Most of the VIPs of the world, the Indian PM, CMs etc have all graced this temple.
After describing the Indescribable, the poet asked for the Lord's forgiveness. Defining Deity in terms of humanity, is like defining the Center in terms of the Circumference !

Dhrita vānasi vedam
Vihita vahitra caritram akhedam
Keśava dhrta Mīna śareera
Jaya Jagadeeśha Hare !
